When people slip and fall, various injuries can occur, such as sprains, strains, contusions, fractures, and other external and internal injuries. Sometimes these heal on their own, but sometimes more specialized evaluations and treatments are needed to prevent long term consequences and shorten recovery time. Physical and emotional damage can be persistent. A detailed medical history, physical examination, and diagnostic testing are necessary to evaluate injuries from a slip and fall.

Internal structures such as ligaments, menisci, bursa cartilages, and bones are all involved in joint function, and can be damaged in a slip or fall. The shoulder has rotator cuff muscles that include tendons and muscles, knees contain cartilages and ligaments. Extremities contain nerves, tendons, blood vessels, muscles, and ligaments, with dozens of small bones in the hands and feet. All of these are susceptible to injury in slip and fall accidents.

Treatment for slip and falls depends on the injuries. Early treatment should follow the rule of RICE: rest, ice, compression, and elevations which can be initiated at home. However, more advanced injuries need more specialized treatment such as a definitive diagnosis, therapy, possible testing, and education about what other treatments are needed. We can determine all of this for you and help prevent long term problems and chronic pain in your future.

Contacting a medical provider directly, early on, is your best option. Emergency rooms are full of sick patients and contacting a specialist in a slip and fall injury can save significant time and distress.
